As a citizen service Centre on the Huangpu River waterfront space, the project was located on the side of the landscape steps of the west pier of Shanghai Port Passenger Centre. Not far from the site is the newly constructed World Hall, and close to the unique Hongkou Riverside Lighthouse. From here, you can also enjoy the Pudong Lujiazui building complex and the Bund historical building complex, which represent the economic, historical and cultural development of Shanghai.

作为滨江岸线上规划的一处市民服务驿站，项目基地被选定于上海市虹口北外滩国客码头第一分段西侧台阶的侧方。选址不远处便是新落成的世界会客厅，近处亦有独树一帜的虹口滨江灯塔。从此处眺望，更是可以同时饱览代表上海发展的浦东陆家嘴建筑群和上海历史底蕴的外滩历史建筑群。

Precisely in such an excellent location, the form of the building is no longer the most important, so the architects hope to use the “non-being” of the building to achieve the “being” of the space.

正是在如此优越的选址条件下，建筑本身的姿态似乎已经“那么不重要”了，而更希望能以建筑的“无形”去成就所处之处的“有形”。

The massing concept is to extend the landscape steps on the west side, and then “lift” the end of the edge. Therefore, the functional space below and the activity platform above are naturally formed. After that, part of the steps was merged to be a large one facing the southwest, which can also be used as a seating area. Ultimately, the building is regard as a “viewfinder” on the Huangpu River.

建筑造型通过顺延西侧的景观台阶后，再“提起”其端部，自然地形成下方的使用空间和上方的活动平台。接着将部分的楼梯踏步合并，形成面向西南方向的可坐台阶，进而成为了一处被精心设计的黄浦江景观的取景点。

The roof floor of the building is made of anti-corrosion wood, which shows a same material with the surrounding. As time fades away from the color of them, the new one and the old one will achieve a harmonious unity.

建筑屋面采用架空防腐木地板，与景观台阶达成一致的材料效果，待时间褪去新物的色彩，新旧将会达到和谐的统一。

To maximize the “non-being” effect of the building, the curtain wall system is ultra-clear laminated glass with hidden frame. When the lights are on during opening hours, the glass will be almost completely invisible, while the interior space will be clearly visible. However, even though the lights are turned off, the glass can reflect the building complex across the river, blending perfectly with the background, blurring the boundaries of the architecture.

为了最大限度的达到“无形”的建筑效果，外墙采用了隐框夹胶超白玻璃幕墙。在内部营业时段，灯光亮起，玻璃几乎完全不可见，内部能够清晰地展现出来。而在营业时间之外，内部灯光熄灭后，玻璃又能将黄浦江对岸的建筑映射出来，与背景完美地融合在一起，模糊了建筑的边界。

The aluminum cornice is sprayed by sparkling coating. Depending on the viewer’s perspective, the surface changes in different angles and different light, as golden as the sun. Its glossiness and dynamic nature will be more conspicuous than that of ordinary white aluminum plates, reflecting the scene on the pier platform more vividly.

屋檐造型由特殊喷涂的幻彩铝板制成，在白底色的基础上，随着观看角度的不同，内部透出如同阳光一样淡淡的金色。在阳光的照射下呈现出超越普通铝板的光泽，也将滨江步道上的景象倒影在其上。

Due to the limited bearing capacity of the pier structure, the building adopts steel structure system and lightweight roof to reduce its own weight. Drill holes in the steel beams to allow pipelines to pass through, thereby lowering the equipment height. Even when the total height of the building is limited to 4m, the indoor net height can be increased as much as possible.

由于滨江步道整体承重的限制，整个建筑采用纯钢结构体系和轻型屋面以减轻自重。钢结构粱通过开孔满足室内设备管线穿越的条件，减少了管线吊顶所占用的高度，使得在建筑总高被控制在4m的情况下，依旧能最大限度地提升室内空间净高。
